Using the "heart rate in percentage" parameters to analyse recovery with Equimetre

There are many ways to look at the recovery parameters, though looking at the HR in % gives the ability to be comparing horses using the same baseline (over a 100).

Focusing on the fastest exercises with 600 m covered in less than 42s (51 km/h) the individual HR Max of each horse is calculated automatically by Equimetre.

This HR Max can vary between 204 and 241 BPM (Evans, 2007)

However, if we compare two horses with different heart rates, such as a horse that can go up to 240 bpm and a horse at 210 bpm, it is agreed that the horse with a higher maximum heart rate will have a higher recovery heart rate.

These same thresholds can therefore be given by calculating the recoveries after exercise and at 15 min as a fraction of the maximum heart rate and therefore use percentages to assess the quality of recovery in a personalized way for each horse.
